which had been previously granted in respect
of one half, the result being that their
salaries were practically fixed in sterling,
while they retained the right to draw leave
salary and pension at special rates on their
nóminal dollar salaries. Under this arrange-
ment an officer whose nominal salary was
$1,000 received in dollars the equivalent of
3,000 shillings. The effect of this exten-
sion of the system of exchange compensation
was to give officers a further increase to
their salaries of approximately 25 per cent.
In the case both of officers on
sterling salaries and of officers drawing
exchange compensation on their full salaries
the method of calculating the exchange
compensation was that indicated in paragraph
4 above.
